Vader came into our care a broken boy... It was obvious that something wasn't right, from the way he walked, the way his hind legs kicked out every few steps.
His vet history revealed nothing. Previous assessments done with other vets when he was desexed, had his BOAS surgery and vaccinations all showed him as a healthy young man.
We weren't convinced so we had him assessed by our vets who recommended further diagnostics to investigate his hind leg mobility.
X-rays and further consults diagnosed significant mobility issues affecting his hind legs, due to possible spinal disease as the underlying cause. He also has a suspected partial tear of the right cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) which could be a result of an acute flare-up of a pre-existing condition. Observation over the next 4 weeks will give us a better picture.
Vader is also dealing with chronic ear infections that required treatment under anaesthetic and will likely need lifelong management.
Right now, Vader is on strict rest, pain relief and ongoing monitoring while our vet team determine the best path forward. He will also require rehabilitation, including physiotherapy, to give him the best chance of living a comfortable and pain-free life.
As a rescue organisation, saying "yes" to dogs like Vader means taking on the financial burden of diagnostics, specialist appointments, medications, rehabilitation and potential long-term care - all of which are reasonable if we're prepared and have been given information at the time of surrender to allocate resources and funds. This wasn't the case. The information provided presented Vader as a healthy young man, having had his BOAS surgery and being desexed.
We're asking our flat faced foster community to help us give Vader that chance. Our target is to raise $5,000 which will go directly towards:
Specialist veterinary consultations and follow-up care
Diagnostic investigations into his spinal condition
Pain relief and ongoing medications
Physiotherapy and rehabilitation treatments
Management of his chronic ear disease and future veterinary care.
Every donation helps. And we're grateful for our amazing community who step up when help is needed.
If you're unable to donate, sharing Vader's story is another beautiful way to support him.
Thank you for helping us give this beautiful little man the care and pain-free life he deserves ππΌ
